Future Path are delighted to be delivering a new service across West London; SYLO (“Sort Your Life Out”)! SYLO is an IPS-led service to support care leavers into employment, and to keep them there. Our SYLO Coaches work across the following 6 boroughs, as well as ensuring that the service is available in Barnet, where we already work closely with the Care Leavers’ Hub:
SYLO is based on the Individual Placement & Support (IPS) model, developed in the USA in 1996. IPS provides a set of “rules” for organisations to follow that will enable participants to find, and sustain, relevant work. IPS was created to provide employment support to people with complex mental health issues. Future Path have adapted the model’s focus away from this client group, and aimed it at the particular needs and circumstances of young people leaving care. A strong feature of IPS is co-location, and SYLO will see our Coaches based within relevant agencies in West London. These will include each borough’s Leaving Care teams and local Jobcentre Plus offices. But Coaches can also meet their clients in less formal settings, including coffee shops (where appropriate) and community venues. SYLO will run until July 2017, during which time we aim to work with 120 eligible care leavers. Using a range of support measures, we will place at least 48 of these young people into relevant work. SYLO is funded by the West London Alliance, in partnership with Jobcentre Plus. For further details please contact info@sylo.org.uk
